In 1887 Sealdah Market Building (at present Central Hall) was converted to Sealdah Municipal Hospital. On 1st Dec. 1873 the Sealdah Medical School was born out of the Sealdah Municipal Hospital. On 10th Aug. 1950 the College was renamed as Nilratan Sircar Medical College after the name of the great freedom fighter and alumni of this institution.

Over the years it has been an auditorium, examination hall, common room and O.P.D.

Landmarks

• A Library of area  12,000 sq. ft. space was made for study.
• 1912-L.L.T. Anatomy Department gets a separate Building.
• 1914 The Morgue was built
• 1974-U N B Building.
• 1978-Centenary building.
• 1991-Academy Building.
• During the year 1998,62,165 patients were admitted and 56,310 were discharged.
• 1973 - 1974-Chest OPD was separated.
• 1915 - 1917  Fraser Ward and Baker Ward are made.
